Dear Listener,
We need your voice on our local board to help us move your station in the right direction.
Democracy only works if there is ample participation. Our local board can ensure that your station is run well. But if effective, logical people don’t join the board your station may decline. Difficult times make this especially urgent. Democracy is not a spectator sport!
An election to fill 9 seats on the local board of your station has begun! We are inviting you to become a candidate. By the way, your good will is more important than any other experience or skills.
We want you to join us if you care deeply about supporting our democratic governance structure and want to keep your station independent and strong. If you are young you can benefit by learning a lot about radio and how a nonprofit is governed, how democracy works in a practical setting, how to put forward plans and proposals, set policy, and how to use Roberts Rules effectively. Adding radio station board experience to a resume is impressive at any age!
Retired people can help by using their experience and skills in a meaningful way that is valuable to society.
Parents are intimately involved on a day-to-day basis with issues dealing with children, education and health care. Your station needs that valuable perspective.
People of all ages, races and genders are welcome and encouraged to apply!
If you are feeling depressed and isolated in today’s polarized world, remember that impression without expression leads to depression. A good way to dispel gloom is by doing something to make things better. You get the idea.
Your station is beginning to branch out to other media platforms and can expand its reach and influence – but only if it has good governance.
Becoming a candidate is pretty simple. Here are the steps:
-
Make sure your membership is current and that you paid at least $25 between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021. If you love listening to your station but are not a member yet, don’t worry! If you donate $25 or more by June 30th you will qualify.
-
Submit a 500-word candidate statement.
-
Get 15 of your station members in good standing to endorse your nomination. Don’t worry, we’ll help with that.
-
Sign a fair campaign statement. The election supervisor will send that to you when you email her to tell her you want to be a candidate at nes@pacifica.org.

If you don’t have the time to join yourself perhaps you can encourage 1 or 2 others to become candidates. Please pass this on and share it on social media.
Your station exists to give voice to the voiceless. Will you add your voice?
